Science is hard, but mixing chemistry with cocktails is a thrilling experience! Recently my girlfriend and I visited a place so exclusive that the waiting list for when we signed up was already at 12,000 people ?… but we managed to get in. This was no ordinary place but rather an RV in a parking lot of a Brooklyn bar. Now I know what you’re thinking, but nothing illegal was going on here, rather something exciting was being cooked up here — Breaking Bad Inspired Cocktails! I got to become a “Cook” for one night and keep my pants on! If you don’t recognize that reference, you should probably rewatch Breaking Bad since it’s an amazing show!
We showed up at around 10:30pm and after a bit of a wait, with a yell, our names were called to line up to get into the RV. We were immediately greeted with a green cocktail and a plastic syringe, which when pressed turned the cocktail blue! After which we were directed to our seats which contained a yellow lab coat and some gloves around a small table full of glass beakers, measuring equipment and lots of marked glass containers…I felt like I was in the actual RV and that at any minute Walter White was going to walk in and Jesse Pinkman was going to start yelling “Science Bitch!” This was going to be a great night.
Pushing the syringe and turning our drinks Crystal Blue….
They sat us down and gave us the first set of “Recipes” to create our second and third cocktail of the night. We had another couple at our table and it was organized so that we each worked on half of the recipe and at the end we had to combine our two experiments together to make the final masterpiece. We each poured our part into a large glass container where it allowed the cocktail to slowly mix and drip into our glasses. Part of the recipe required us grinding some sugar and other ingredients and the hosts garnished our cocktail with lines of sugar that they asked us to snort! We didn’t do it but it tasted amazing with our custom cocktail!
These two videos show us getting some more of cocktail number two!
After a little cleanup, we were onto recipe #2. This recipe called for a bunch of ingredients infused into the cocktail through a whipped cream dispenser which was a lot of fun to use. We also had some dry ice added to the other half of the mixture they improvised a blender with a power drill to turn the liquid into a blue alcoholic slushi. We each did our portion of the experiment and ended up with a very satisfying cocktail that was poured through a “makeshift” vacuum created with dry ice! Not only that but it even included pop rocks so it was exciting to drink. This was definitely the most fun cocktail of the night and the coolest thing I’ve ever seen created!

By the end of the night, we were full of energy and sticky from all the crazy experiments we just did. We had a lot of fun and it was one of the best immersive experiences you can find….while it lasts. And if you ever get to visit London, they have it there too! It’s definitely a once in a lifetime experience so I would highly suggest you go. The pop up bar in Brooklyn, NY is temporary and tickets are selling out extremely fast so if you want to learn more go to https://m.facebook.com/abqny/ and get your name on the waiting list at http://lollipopup.co.uk/abq-ny-waiting-list.
